AP: Travel and Complex Payments
This workshop will provide participants with the latest information regarding procedures for preparing travel forms and direct pay requests for complex payments (tuitions, stipends, awards, honorarium, etc.). The travel and complex payment team will review the policies and regulations associated with University travel and complex payments.
Auditing Issues
This informative session will provide participants with operational self-assessment tools in addition to advice on common practices that will greatly reduce an individual's anxiety during a surprise visit from an Internal Auditor. Participants will get to meet our Internal Audit Department staff and have the opportunity to ask question on topics that may be of concern.
Auxiliary Services
Representatives from Auxiliary Services will provide a primer on services most frequently utilized by camus departments. The '4 W's" of each service will be explained: What is the service? Where is it located? When is it open? Why would I use it or need to know about it? Employees will receive information and get the opportunity to ask questions about the following valuable campus services: Parking Services, 49erCard, Vending, Insurance Services, Campus Bookstore, Copy Center, Vending, Food Services, Trademark/License Policies.

Budget: Managing Your General Fund
This training workshop is designed for employees who are new to the responsibility of monitoring General Fund (state) budgets. It is also for those employees who wish to have a 'refresher'. Topics covered include: a definition of the General Fund; the budget process for both state and the University; how to do budget revisions; an explanation of budget pools; and Budget Office contacts.
Business Continuity Planning
Disaster strikes! What do you do? Who do you turn to for help? During this workshop, participants will learn what is needed to keep the University in operation in case of disaster. This 1 hour introduction to Business Continuity Planning will familiarize you with the organization of Business Continuity, the priorities for implementation and the means for keeping plans current. It is appropriate for all managers and supervisors, and for employees at any level who have direct responsibility for maintaining the Business Continuity Plan for their department or work unit.
Conference Planning
There are a myriad of policies, procedures and guidelines to be aware of when coordinating the details of a conference. This workshop, hosted by the Conferences, Reservations and Event Services department, will review university and conference policies regarding the use of space on campus. Valuable tips are provided to guide you in planning and execution. The success of your event may depend upon your attendance in this workshop!
EPA Faculty Recruitment and Hiring
The session will focus on the procedures required for the recruitment and hiring of our faculty. It will be particularly helpful for academic department administrators, college business managers and college personnel administrators. New department chairs will also find this useful. Because of state and federal regulations, we have a set procedure to follow when filling a faculty vacancy. This session will explain the recruitment, selection, and hiring process. We will cover which forms to use and explain the flow of these forms through the various University offices. Your questions will be welcome.
Facilities Management
This workshop will present services available to the campus community through Facilities Management. Topics will include: contacting your building liaison to resolve problems such as uncomfortable temperatures in your building, electrical or plumbing concerns, elevator problems, fire alarms, power outages, gas smells, missed housekeeping services, how to arrange Motor Fleet reservations, obtain building keys, and arrange to have furniture moved. The use of the FM1 form to obtain estimates for potential renovation projects will also be discussed.
Fixed Assets
Do you have responsibility for the stewardship of university-owned equipment? This workshop will acquaint individuals with interpreting departmental inventory reports along with the proper way of disposing of (or acquiring) equipment that is no longer in use.
Grants and Contracts Financial Administration
This workshop will provide an overview of the roles, responsibilities and requirements for the financial administration of research grants and contracts. Participants will learn: basic Banner reports and tools; helpful regulatory guidance; and contract information for successful grants management.
Hiring Procedures for Employing Students
This session covers the types of on-campus student employment, the steps in hiring and supervising a student employee.
Mail Services
Learn how to utilize your Mail Services Department to minimize your departmental mailing costs. USPS and Bulk Mail preparation will be discussed as well as business reply mail and general mail preparation instructions.
Materials Management and AP 101
This workshop provides the latest information regarding the university's purchasing policies and procedures in addition to the procedures for invoice payments on purchase orders and direct pay requests.
Salary Administration
Designed for supervisors with hiring authority for SPA personnel,
this workshop provides information on evaluating business needs, determining required levels of competency, and applying that knowledge to observing, documenting, and assessing competency development in employees. The use of the competency assessment to plan for and request a career progression increase is addressed.
Staff Recruitment and Hiring
Procedures for hiring staff employees differ slightly from those for faculty. Staff employees from our Academic Affairs area will be sharing with participants the proper procedure for the recruitment and hiring of EPA and SPA staff employees. Individuals will learn the laws that govern proper advertising in regard to equal employment, applicant flow process, accurate and correct documentation, and Human Resources involvement in the process. Employees will also come away with a general working knowledge of the difference between hiring faculty and staff.
Utilizing Educational Perks

Register to attend this workshop and learn how to utilize the tuition waiver or take advantage of the educational assistance program. Participants will learn: logistical information and clarification; educational benefits available for career development; necessary forms will be distributed and reviewed, including the Tuition Waiver Application and Instructions (and encouragement) will be given regarding admission to undergraduate and graduate programs.
Worker's Compensation for Supervisors
Supervisors often allow day-to-day activities to capture their full attention because they are comfortable with this side of the business. When an employee is injured on the job, it is not uncommon to find supervisors unclear about what to do. This training and development workshop is now offered for supervisors; and will offer direction and a clearer understanding of worker's compensation, the process, and the completion of forms. Through the use of handouts, group discussion and a power point presentation, you will learn the general guidelines to follow if an employee is injured on the job.
