Onboarding - Making New Employee Orientation Personal
A friend recently married into a large family was overwhelmed with the sea of new faces, names and relationships. To ease her transition, a well-meaning uncle prepared a set of flashcards, complete with photos, names, hometowns and professions. That's the kind of connection our new onboarding initiative will make. Now, when a candidate accepts a new position, our onboarding strategy will immediately begin helping the new employee connect to the University. Rather than flashcards and photos, the University's connection activities include: touching-base with the employee prior to their first day, providing access to the New Employee Website, and highlighting learning opportunities available through 49erConnect online modules.
The strategy of Onboarding connects the employee to the University in ways that will jump start employee commitment, engagement and productivity within the first thirty days of employment. Of course, this early connection benefits the University's retention rate as well.
It's true, we have one opportunity to make a good first impression.
