Short Description
This job class conducts related laboratory
techniques in a departmental research laboratory.
The majority of time is spent in bench work
duties such as chemical/biological tests and
preparation of tissue samples. These duties
are sometimes performed independently and involve
the exercise of judgment in applying changes
to standardized or non-standardized tests.
Minor modification of procedures typically result
from troubleshooting equipment and procedures.
This position normally confers with the project
leader on protocol, design, or methodology of
the research project. Some literature
review may be performed at this level.
There is limited involvement in project planning,
design or modification of techniques.
This job class performs sets up equipment, collects
and records data, troubleshoots abnormal results,
and summarizes data; however, very limited analysis
of data is expected.

Short Description
This job class provides research support
to research projects utilizing a variety of
techniques and methods that are of a higher
level of difficulty than those performed at
the I and II Research Technician levels.
This job class has a greater knowledge of the
purpose of the research project and performs
laboratory techniques independently which have
been designed and outlined by the project leader
(Principal Investigator, Research Associate,
Research Analyst). The Research Technician
III is more involved in the project by making
recommendations in regards to the research design,
protocol and methodology. Summarization
and some analysis of experimental research design,
protocol and methodology. Summarization
and some analysis of experimental data is expected
at this level. This position performs
literature searches and utilized this information
to modify basic experimental methods or to troubleshoot
procedures. As a result of involvement
in higher level responsibilities, the Research
Technician III spends less time performing bench
work than the lower level technicians. The Research
Technician III may supervise lower level laboratory
technicians. This level may also make
conference presentations and provide input into
future experiments; may co-author and write
the materials and methods section of the manuscript
and publications.
Note:
To qualify for the midpoint of $34,404, the
selected candidate should have a total of nine
years of relevant education/training and experience
(4 year degree + 5-1/2 years of additional education
and experience).

Short Description
This position spends the majority of time
in data collection. Typically this could include
conducting simple structured interviews that
do not require multi-step complexity; conducting
focus groups; coordinating instructional activities
including training graduate students and interviewers
on procedures; preparing case studies and assisting
developing pilot tests; entering data into logs,
databases, spreadsheets, discipline specific
software applications to be used for further
statistical evaluation. The other areas of responsibility
would be in work planning and data analysis.
Planning activities might include assisting
in determining sources of data, data sample
selection, and methods to be used in collecting
data; keeping files updated , maintaining evaluation
records, notes, documents, and reports; troubleshooting
problem on data files and application problems;
scheduling and organizing meetings, interviews,
direct mailings. While the position is expected
to already know the proper basic research techniques,
the supervisor will review this with the position.
The position is expected within a reasonable
amount of time to carry out data collection
duties independently. |

Short Description
This position spends time in planning activities
which could entail determining and preparing
study/project protocols to be used in collecting
and assessing data; determining sources of data,
data sample selection, and methods to be used
in collecting data; assisting in developing
assessment tools for small or moderate sized
projects/studies. The position is heavily involved
in data collection management. Examples would
include supervising and/ or conducting interviews
that may require multi-step complexity; coordinating
instructional activities such as training interviewers/data
collectors to conduct and rate interviews, to
conduct telephone surveys, administer standardized
tests; assisting in the design of questionnaires
and identifies target population for distribution.
The position involved in data analysis which
could involve verifying that tests and rating
scales scored by data collectors are accurate
and complete and carrying out descriptive statistical
analyses. While the position is expected to
already know the proper basic research techniques,
the supervisor will review this with the position.
The position is expected within a reasonable
amount of time to carry out duties independently
and use considerable judgment in completing
a given study or portion thereof. |

Short Description
This position is heavily involved in the
planning and project management aspects of the
research being performed. The position coordinates
and collaborates with the project team, participants,
and other satellite groups in the community,
or state depending on the size of the project;
plans team meetings, conference calls, project
presentations and marketing presentations; acts
as a technical resource when determining and
preparing study/project protocols to be used
in \collecting data or when training trainers;
assists in or develops assessment tools for
moderate to large sized projects/ programs and
studies; manages and oversees contract negotiations
and is responsible for implementing research
plans designed by the Principle Investigator;
setting and meeting operational goals; and monitoring
the budget to ensure that project activities
are completed within budgetary constraints.
The position is responsible for data collection
management and data management including training
of research assistants and lower level Social
Research Assistants in collecting data, scoring
tests, reliability and validity, transcribing
and coding, and entering of data; interviewing;
conducting telephone surveys; administer standardized
tests; to conduct observations of test subjects.
The position also reviews tests and evaluates
their usefulness to the program/study/project
and modifies them if necessary. Depending on
the size of the project the position assist
or write the executive summaries and other distributed
reports, findings etc. and present findings,
studies, and research at national conferences.
This position manages phases/stages of
large projects independently and/or manage multiple
smaller studies and may act in the absence of
the PI as appropriate. |
