Dual Career Couples Employment Assistance Program

Steps to Receive Recruitment Assistance

  1. Brochures describing the Dual Career Couples Program (DCCEAP) and Notification of Appointment forms are sent to search committee chairs for each position recruitment advertisement received by the Program Coordinator.

  2. Include the  (DCCEAP) brochure in all recruiting packets, encouraging discussion of spouse/partner hiring needs as early as possible in the recruiting process. (For brochures, call 704-687-6363 or e-mail bgreene@uncc.edu.

  3. When there is a spouse/partner hiring need, make contact with the Program Coordinator, Barbara Greene, at 704-687-6363 or bgreene@uncc.edu.  Provide as much information as you have regarding the employment needs.  If you have a résumé or c.v.,  fax or e-mail it.  Be sure to mention if and where you've already circulated the résumé.

  4. If the couple is making a visit to UNC Charlotte, you may arrange a meeting of the spouse/partner with the DCCEAP Coordinator.  Please make arrangements with the Coordinator in advance of the visit.  Otherwise, inform the spouse/partner that he or she should contact the Program Coordinator directly to initiate services.

  5. The Program Coordinator will consult with the spouse/partner to determine employment needs, assist with a resume rewrite, and market the spouse/partner to employers both internal and external to UNC Charlotte.  Continuous assistance will be provided until employment is secured, or for up to one year.  You are encouraged to check on the progress of the spouse/partner's search at any time.

  6. Keep the DCCEAP Coordinator apprised of the success or failure of your recruiting efforts.  Understand that some recruitment efforts are not successful.  It is often difficult to synchronize your recruiting efforts and deadlines with acquisition of employment for the spouse/partner.

What To Tell Your Candidates About the Dual Career Network

  • The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes that career decisions are influenced by family considerations. The Dual Career Couples Employment Assistance Program has been jointly developed by the Office of the Provost, the University Career Center, and the Department of Human Resources to address some of the special employment needs and concerns of dual career couples.

  • The Dual Career Couples Program is not a placement or an employment agency and cannot guarantee employment. This program is designed to provide partners with the tools and information resources needed to support their search for suitable employment. Regardless of your partner's career stage or whether he/she is seeking academic or non-academic employment, the Program can be an important benefit to both of you as a dual career couple.

  • The DCCEAP works with all areas throughout UNC Charlotte and local businesses to find employment openings.

  • The DCCEAP works with many career strands, including teachers, IT professionals, engineers, medical personnel, writers, academics, etc.

How the Dual Career Couples Program Works

  • Once you have hired your new faculty or professional staff member, complete the Notification of Appointment form and return it to the Dual Career Couples Program Coordinator. You may complete the on-line version of the Notification of Appointment form and submit it via e-mail by following the instructions on the form or return the copy that was included with the brochures during the recruitment period.
