Dual Career Couple Employment Assistance

Who qualifies for services of the Dual Career Couples Program?

You qualify if:

  • You are the spouse/partner of a tenure-track faculty, senior academic and administrative officers, or professional (FLSA-exempt) staff recruited from outside the Charlotte-Metropolitan area.
  • You are part of a recruitment effort.

 How does the program work?

  • The DCCEAP Coordinator will conduct an initial consultation with you to determine eligibility and employment needs.
  • You will be asked to complete a Dual Career Couples Employment Assistance survey and a Release of Contact Information form. The Coordinator will use the information provided on the survey to determine the type relocation assistance desired.
  • After the survey is returned to the Program Coordinator a packet will be prepared, based on the spouse/partner's response.
  • The Program Coordinator will refer spouses/partners to the University Career Center upon request.
  • The DCCEAP coordinator networks with local contacts, including area employers and UNC Charlotte internal departments, to prepare a list of contacts that may be able to provide employment assistance to the spouse/partner.
  • Continual efforts will be made until:
        a. you secure a position, or 
        b. you have received program services for one year.    

What services are provided?

  • Professional Association Information (Networking)
    A telephone and address listing of local professional associations related to your career field.
  • Networking Contacts in Your Profession
    Sharing your name and phone number with other individuals who are in your field.
    North Carolina Licensing/Credentials Requirements
    Information on North Carolina's licensing requirements for employment in your profession.
  • Job Market Research
    Information on the current and future projection for your field.
  • Résumé/Cover Letter Preparation
    Information and assistance in writing or reviewing your résumé and/or cover letter.
  • Interviewing Skills
    Information on preparing for interview and participating in a videotaped "mock interview."
  • On-Campus Office Space
    Access to an on-campus work area to research and contact potential employers.
  • Negotiating a Job Offer
    Information and advice on how to negotiate a job offer.
  • Identification of Career Goals
    Assistance in exploring and identifying your career options.
  • Volunteer Opportunities
    Information on expanding your skills and contact through volunteer opportunities.
