About the Dual Career Couples Program

What is the "Dual Career Couples Program?"
The Dual Career Couples Program
is not a placement or an employment agency and cannot guarantee employment. This program is designed to provide partners with the tools and information resources needed to support their search for suitable employment. Regardless of your partner's career stage or whether he/she is seeking academic or non-academic employment, the Program can be an important benefit to both of you as a dual career couple!

Who is Eligible for Employment Assistance?
Spouses and domestic partners of tenure-track faculty, senior academic and administrative officers, and professional (FLSA-exempt) staff who are recruited from outside the Charlotte-Metropolitan area are eligible to participate in the Program for up to one year.

What Types of Employment Assistance May Your Partner Expect?
The type of employment assistance provided will be tailored to meet your partner's particular employment needs. For those partners seeking non-academic employment opportunities, we offer three levels of assistance:

Level I Employment Assistance
If your partner is seeking basic entry level employment assistance, such as résumé writing, interviewing skills, or career counseling, the Program Coordinator will familiarize your partner with the free workshops and classes offered through the University Career Center located on campus.

Level II Employment Assistance
For those partners seeking general, non-academic employment, the Program Coordinator will provide information on employment opportunities at UNC Charlotte and other area employers, a listing of major area employers who hire in your partner's field, and a personalized list of contacts generated through a variety of resources.

Level III Employment Assistance
For partners who are "seasoned professionals with advanced career status," the Program Coordinator will send a list of contacts generated through a variety of resources, a list of career-related professional associations, a list of the major area employers in the dual career partner's field, information on the resources available through the University Career Center, and other pertinent information. In addition, the Program Coordinator will consult with the University's Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources for review and suggestions for further assistance.

Academic Employment Assistance
Partners seeking an academic position, whether at UNC Charlotte or another area educational institution, will be assisted by the University's Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources who will attempt to network the credentials (résumé/vitae) of such partners to appropriate resource persons within the University (eg. Provost, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dean, Department Chair, etc.) or to neighboring institutions.
