HR: Compensation & Career Banding at UNC Charlotte |

II. Salary increase requests
Step 1: If the employee’s salary is at or below the position’s career band market reference rate, you may request a career progression increase based on a competency assessment (already on file or being submitted to HR) which indicates that all functional competencies are being demonstrated at the position level (for an increase to market), or that some are being demonstrated above the overall position level (for an increase above market ). Any competency assessment ratings revised since the last submission of a competency assessment document should be in response to a clear change in responsibilities and the employee’s corresponding competency growth.
Step 2: Submit a BREMP to your department head requesting a Career Progression Increase based on competency.
Step 3: If the overall competency level of the employee being assessed has changed, and you have discussed the documentation with your department head and HR consultant, you will need to submit a revised Position Description form to request a change in the position level. Your consultant may also suggest a more appropriate career band based on the changing position responsibilities.
